Man Sentenced After Pointing Fake Gun At Fargo Police Officer
FARGO, N.D. (AP) — A man who was shot by a Fargo police officer last September has been sentenced to four years in prison on several felony charges.
Authorities say Officer Patrick Thomas shot 31-year-old Karmen Redshirt in a parking lot after Redshirt aimed a replica gun with a laser pointer at the officer. Redshirt had emergency surgery and was hospitalized for several days.
A state investigation later cleared Thomas of any wrongdoing.
Redshirt on Monday pleaded guilty to charges including terrorizing and was sentenced. He'll be on probation for three years following his prison time.
Redshirt told the judge that he is a drug addict and was planning a "suicide by cop" when he pointed what turned out to be a BB gun at Thomas.
