Man Killed In Motorcycle Hit-And-Run In Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A pedestrian is dead after being seriously injured in a hit-and-run involving a motorcycle in Minneapolis Friday night.
Police say 56-year-old Louie ChargingBear was stuck by a motorcyclist at about 10:38 p.m. at the intersection of Cedar Avenue and 27th Street East.
Witnesses say the suspect — who fled on a black motorcycle with high handlebars — is a white man between 30 and 35 years of age with light-colored hair.
The victim was taken to Hennepin County Medical Center, where he died Saturday. He died from multiple blunt force injuries, according to the Hennepin County Medical Examiner.
Police say before he died, the victim was able to give a description that matched those of witnesses.
Neighbors along that busy intersection say many drivers speed in the 30mph zone.
There was no pedestrian crosswalk at the scene of the incident.
Neighbor Maria Morocho described a loud crash Friday night and seeing the victim lying in the road.
"It was awful, if he has family I feel bad for them," Morocho said.
Minneapolis Police Spokesperson John Elder said on Saturday investigators were reviewing nearby surveillance video to try and get more information on the person who hit the victim. Elder said the motorcyclist was likely speeding.
"To have a motorcycle hit something as large as a person and be able to stay upright and flee is very uncommon," Elder said.
Elder said people should be on the lookout for someone matching the description with a similar motorcycle that may have some damage after the incident.
"This person could be from anywhere, they could have been driving through to a southern city," Elder said.
For neighbors, the thought someone could just keep on driving after hitting a person is unbelievable.
"It could have been any of us just trying to cross the street," another neighbor Martha Ortiz said.
Police did not say where the victim is from and if he has any family in the area.
