Man Sentenced To 7 Years In Prison For Fatal Hit-&-Run
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A 21-year-old man has been sentenced to 7 years and 4 months in prison in connection to a St. Paul hit-and-run accident that killed a 78-year-old man.
The Ramsey County Attorney's Office says Gregory John Larsin will also pay a $6,000 fine and restitution to the family of the victim, Roger Tetu, which will be determined later by the court.
"This defendant took the life of an innocent and beloved member of our community through his totally irresponsible actions," said Ramsey County Attorney John Choi. "Our office is pleased with this significant prison sentence, and it is our hope it will serve to remind others that such reckless and destructive behavior will not be tolerated."
According to the criminal complaint, at 4:30 p.m. on July 26, 2011, two vehicles stopped to allow Tetu to cross the road at the intersection on Earl and Margaret Streets. Witnesses told police that a speeding vehicle went around the stopped cars, struck the victim and fled without stopping.
St. Paul Police later found out that Larsin had recently purchased that vehicle from a friend's girlfriend.
Three days later, he turned himself into police.
Larsin pled guilty on Sept. 23, 2011 to one count of criminal vehicular homicide.
