Man Robs Shoe Store, Leads Police On 100 MPH Chase
SHAKOPEE, Minn. (WCCO) -- Shakopee Police arrested a man who led them on a chase after he allegedly robbed a Famous Footwear at gunpoint Monday morning.
The robbery happened at the location along 17th Avenue East at about 11:30 a.m. The 42-year-old suspect, who has not yet been identified by name, displayed a handgun to an employee.
He made off with money from both the cash register as well as the safe, and also took the employee's purse and cell phone.
Police were able to locate the suspect's getaway vehicle and tried to pull him over, but he fled, leading police from Shakopee, Savage, Prior Lake -- as well as officers with the Scott County Sheriff's Office and the Minnesota State Patrol -- on a long pursuit that at times went against traffic and reached speeds nearing 100 miles per hour.
No one was injured in the chase, and no property sustained any damage, according to police.
A standoff eventually took place in the parking lot of a Target store in Savage. At one point, the man yelled "Shoot me" at officers and pointed his hand toward his head like a gun.
After saying he wanted to tell his wife goodbye, he eventually surrendered to police.
The Shakopee Police Department is still investigating the incident.
