Man Pleads Guilty To Hitting Boy With Car At Airport
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A 61-year-old man pleaded guilty Monday to one felony count of criminal vehicular operation after hitting a 6-year-old child with his car at the Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport last December.
On Dec. 16, 2011, authorities arrested Tommy Rodriguez of St. Paul for criminal vehicular operation after hitting 6-year-old Zachery Drew at the green short-term parking ramp at the airport.
Drew was heading to the airport to greet his father, who was returning from military duty in Iraq. Airport Spokesperson Pat Hogan said the incident happened at about 6 p.m.
Authorities said they smelled alcohol on Rodriguez's breath at the time of the incident.
Drew was treated at Gillette Children's Hospital for a broken leg, nose and jaw.
Rodriguez was also charged with one gross misdemeanor count of third-degree driving while impaired, but the charge was dismissed.
Sentencing for Rodriquez is set for November 16, 2012.
