Man Pleads Guilty In Duluth Group Home Attack
DULUTH, Minn. (AP) -- A 21-year-old man has pleaded guilty to kidnapping and trying to sexually assault a female staff member at the rural Duluth group home where he was living.
Robert Berendt III pleaded guilty Thursday in St. Louis County to kidnapping and second-degree attempted criminal sexual conduct. Other charges were dismissed.
According to the complaint, Berendt and the 21-year-old victim were playing video games at the Stepping Stones for Living group home last June when Berendt hit her in the head with a frying pan. He then forced her into a bedroom, but she escaped to a neighbor's home and called police.
The Duluth News Tribune reports the prosecutor told the judge that the victim and law enforcement support the way the case was resolved.
Sentencing is set for June 6.
