Man Gets Nearly 6 Years For Brainerd Assault
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 30-year-old man was sentenced to nearly six years in prison for his part in a fight that police said was racially motivated.
Travis Campbell changed his plea to guilty of first-degree aggravated robbery for a fight in February 2011 at Yesterday's Gone Bar in Brainerd. According to police, Campbell and 28-year-old Lucas Eastwood punched and kicked 58-year-old Willie Navy in the head because he was black.
Eastwood was sentenced to eight and a half years in prison last October. According to a criminal complaint, Eastwood said he wanted to "beat up the black guy," who was later identified as Navy.
Navy needed multiple surgeries after the incident and could ultimately lose vision in one eye.
Campbell will get credit for the time he's served since the incident, Feb. 6, 2011. The other charges against Campbell, third-degree assault and four-degree assault motivated by bias were dismissed.
