Man Gets More Than 9 Years In Crash That Killed 2
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man who the Minnesota State Patrol said has a history of drinking and driving was sentenced to 9.5 years in prison Friday in connection with a March car crash in Brooklyn Center that killed two people.
Yeng Vue, 21, pleaded guilty on Sept. 20 to criminal vehicular operation-homicide charges in the March 5 accident near Highway 100 and 57th Avenue in Brooklyn Center that killed 21-year-old Jessica Van Allis and 22-year-old George Nyumah Kaffey.
Vue and a cousin had been drinking at a friend's house in Minneapolis. Vue, whose license expired in August 2010, was driving with his cousin to Brooklyn Center at about 10:30 p.m. when he went through a red light at a high rate of speed and hit the vehicle with Allis and Kaffey inside. The vehicle, which belonged to Vue's cousin, was also not insured.
Vue's blood alcohol level was .22 at the time of the crash, according to court documents, which is nearly three times the limit for driving in Minnesota.
Vue was sentenced to 114 months in prison and will get credit for 224 days already served.
