Man Gets Life In Prison For Stabbing Wife 65+ Times
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A Brooklyn Park man convicted of stabbing his wife more than 65 times was sentenced Thursday to life in prison without the possibility for parole, authorities said.
Prince Oliver Moore Jr., 54, was convicted of killing his wife Mauryn Moore, 39, in an attack in the couple's home last September. He had been charged with two counts of first-degree murder, and his sentence is a mandatory term for first-degree murder convictions.
The Attack
Police responded to the Villa Del Coronado Apartments on Zane Avenue in Brooklyn Park early on Sept. 13, 2011.
When officers arrived, they found Mauryn Moore dead. The Hennepin County Medical Examiner Office said she died from multiple sharp blunt force injuries. Several of the wounds were to her hands and arms, indicating she was trying to defend herself.
The tip of the large knife Prince Moore used was found broken off in Mauryn Moore's back.
Investigators said the Moores had a history of domestic violence leading up to the murder.
"October is Domestic Violence Awareness Month and this case shows how much work remains to be done. Too often, women silently suffer beatings at the hands of boyfriends and husbands," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said. "Sadly, we see too many cases where the violence doesn't end until the woman is killed."
