Man Gets Life In Prison For Gang-Related Shooting In St. Paul
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A jury has found a 20-year-old man guilty of a gang-related shooting last October that left a woman dead in an SUV in an alley behind a St. Paul church.
Joseph Campbell was found guilty Thursday in the death of Neressa Turner on Oct. 14, 2012, the Ramsey County Attorney's Office said. After the verdict, Campbell was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
Court documents show the shooting was gang-related. Here's the story the documents show:
Turner, whose nickname was "Nu Nu," was believed to have seen or have intimate knowledge of a murder that happened in February of 2012, an investigation found.
The man who was murdered in February was a member of the East Side Boyz gang. Members of that gang were in the area when Turner was shot in an alley off the 900 block of East Reaney Avenue.
Witnesses said the shooter approached the SUV Turner was in, opened the rear door and shot Turner multiple times with a handgun. The shooter wore a mask and uttered "Nu Nu" before killing Turner.
Campbell was convicted of three counts in relation to the killing, including: first-degree murder; second-degree murder; and a crime committed for the benefit of a gang.
