Man Gets Life For Gang Shooting That Killed Innocent Bystander
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) - A 23-year-old Robbinsdale man was convicted of first-degree murder for the 2013 death of an innocent bystander in a gang shooting.
A judge sentenced Marlon Rashaad Robertson to life in prison Monday afternoon after an 11-day trial.
Robertson shot Kevin Braziel multiple times in June 2013 in front of the Chicago Grill on Broadway Avenue. Robertson was trying to kill one of Braziel's friends, who had cooperated with police after an April 2013 robbery, police found. Braziel died in the hospital two weeks after the shooting.
"We finally have justice for Mr. Braziel, an innocent bystander, and for his family," Hennepin County Attorney Mike Freeman said in a statement. "We take all murders in this county seriously and we will root out gangsters no matter how long it takes."
The jury also found Robertson guilty of attempted second-degree murder and of witness intimidation--he wrote letters from jail asking for help in persuading witnesses not to testify.
