Man Gets 90 Days In Criminal Sexual Conduct Case
NORTH BRANCH, Minn. (WCCO) – A 46-year-old man who ran unsuccessfully for a spot on the North Branch school board last year was sentenced to 90 days in jail and 10 years probation on Wednesday in connection with a criminal sexual conduct case.
Robert Eugene Newman, who had a past with criminal sexual conduct in Hennepin County, was charged back in February in Isanti County Court after being accused of engaging in sexual contact with a young adult between the ages of 16 and 18 back in January.
Two days after it happened, the victim met with authorities to report the incident. It involved sexual touching.
Newman will spend 90 days in jail after a stayed sentence of more than two years. He also must complete a sex offender treatment program and pay more than $2,200 in restitution to the victim.
Newman unsuccessfully vied for a spot on the North Branch school board last year.
Court records indicate Newman was previously convicted of second-degree criminal sexual conduct in 1994 in Hopkins and was ordered to seek treatment through Project Pathfinders.
