Man Gets 30 Years In Child's 2013 Murder
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A Hopkins man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder charges in the 2013 death of a 4-year-old child.
According to the complaint, Burnsville Police and paramedics responded to the 30 block of Horizon Heights on June 11, 2013 on a call of toddler with a medical problem. By the time authorities arrived, the child was deceased.
William Alphonso Warr, 26, was arrested near the scene for a violation of an order for protection, which prohibited him from being at the residence.
The complaint said Warr crashed into the side of a garage at the scene, told police the car belonged to the woman who lives at the residence and fled when the police asked for the keys.
He was indicted in January 2014 on multiple counts of first- and second-degree murder.
On Wednesday, Warr entered a plea agreement, pleading guilty to second-degree murder.
The Dakota County Attorney's Office said Warr will be sentenced to 30 years in prison, an upward departure from standard sentencing guidelines "due to the particular vulnerability of the victim."
"We are pleased to have brought William Warr to justice for this violent crime which claimed the life of a defenseless child. Our deep sympathy is extended to the young victim's family," Dakota County Attorney James Backstrom said.
