Man Gets 22 Years For Shooting At Police During Standoff
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 27-year-old St. Cloud man was sentenced to more than 22 years in prison in Stearns County Court Friday after he was previously found guilty of firing a weapon at police officers during an Aug. 14, 2010 incident.
Frank James Bammert had been charged with two counts of first-degree assault, two counts of second-degree assault and one count of being a felon in possession of a firearm. Police responded to a St. Cloud apartment complex on Aug. 14, 2010, after witnesses said Bammert was firing gun shots outside his apartment window.
When authorities arrived, Bammert fired shots in the direction of police officers. He was shot by a Waite Park Police officer during a standoff and suffered a brain injury after being shot twice in the head.
Bammert was convicted of all charges in connection with the incident.
