Man Gets 16 Years For Fatal Beating In Northern Minnesota
VIRGINIA, Minn. (AP) — A northern Minnesota man has been sentenced to more than 16 years in prison for fatally beating a man who considered him a friend.
Thirty-nine-year-old Michael Henry Richard Daufelt of Virginia, Minnesota, got the maximum sentence allowed under state guidelines Monday. He pleaded guilty in July to unintentional second-degree murder.
Prosecutors sought the maximum sentence. They say Daufelt admitted he unintentionally caused the death of David Super while assaulting him.
Super's body was found in a Virginia apartment on May 6 after police and paramedics were called about a man not breathing.
A witness told police she wanted to get the victim help during the beating, but he told her no because Daufelt was his best friend.
