Man Gets 14-Plus Years For Carjacking Taxi
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 45-year-old man was sentenced to more than 14 years in prison late last week in Minneapolis Federal Court for carjacking a taxi in a Jan. 29, 2011 incident.
Antonius Brett El-X, also known as Brett Anthony Anderson, was sentenced to 176 months in federal prison on one count of interference of commerce by robbery. He was charged on March 22, 2011 and pleaded guilty on Jan. 10.
According to the plea agreement, Anderson admitted that on Jan. 29, 2011, he requested for a taxi to pick him up at a Crystal hotel. While in the cab's front passenger seat, he lifted his leg over the center console and slammed on the brakes. Anderson tried to push the driver out of the vehicle and threatened with the use of force.
The cab driver fled the scene and called police. Anderson ultimately crashed the cab before being arrested.
