Man Falls, Gets Dragged By Light Rail Train In Bloomington

BLOOMINGTON, Minn. (WCCO) – Police say a man somehow didn't suffer any serious injuries after falling off a ledge and being dragged by a light rail train late Friday night.

The incident happened at about 10:30 p.m. Friday at the American Boulevard light rail station in Bloomington. A spokesperson for Metro Transit said the man was with a group at the station when he lost his balance and fell from the station platform between two light rail cars on the southbound tracks.

Authorities said the man was dragged about 50 feet. The man was conscious and breathing when emergency personnel arrived and was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. He apparently didn't sustain any life threatening injuries.

A Metro Transit spokesperson said there were some service delays on the light rail line as a result of the accident and buses were brought in to assist with getting customers to their destinations. Once the scene was cleared, the light rail trains were back on their regular schedules.

Authorities with Metro Transit are checking surveillance video to see how exactly the accident happened. Police won't comment on whether alcohol or horseplay might have been a factor in the incident. The light rail operator also underwent drug and alcohol testing, which is standard procedure.

The accident is still under investigation.
