Man Convicted In St. Louis Park Motel Murder
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 32-year-old Minneapolis man was convicted Friday of second-degree murder in the stabbing death of a St. Louis Park woman at a motel last November.
After about four hours of deliberation, a Hennepin County jury found James Edward Reed guilty in the stabbing death of Pamela Beaulieu. Reed was arrested in Chicago, Ill., on Nov. 30, 2010.
The day of the murder, investigators said Beaulieu had been at the Lakeland Inn Motel and left with two men to take part in a drug deal. That's when they met up with Reed. A witness told police, after they got back to the motel, Reed said he wanted some time alone with Beaulieu.
Around 1:30 p.m. a guest at the motel reported hearing a woman scream. Court documents said the motel staff checked it out, but they checked the wrong room. Around 7 p.m. a hotel manager discovered the room trashed and Beaulieu's bloody body.
Reed, also known as Carl Shumond Anderson, spent much of the night on Nov. 18, 2010, with several people at the Lakeland Inn in St. Louis Park, according to a criminal complaint.
The next day, a witness heard a fight going on in the hotel room. Beaulieu's body was later found in the room. Pieces from a broken mirror had been used to cut her throat, according to the complaint.
A combination of physical evidence and witnesses put Reed as the last man to be with Beaulieu before she died.
