Man Charged With 1st-Degree Murder In Richfield Slaying
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 23-year-old Minneapolis man has been charged with first-degree murder in the death of an elderly man in his Richfield home, according to the Hennepin County Attorney's Office.
Leon Henry Anderson was also charged with attempted first-degree murder in an attack on the victim's wife.
According to the criminal complaint, Richfield Police were called to the house on March 2, 2012 by the sister-in-law of the deceased victim, Richard Webb. The first responding officer found Webb, 79, on the living room floor and he had obviously been dead for more than a day.
Webb's wife was found in the kitchen, dazed and wrapped in a blanket. She had a slash mark across her throat, and she was taken to the hospital for treatment. She was unable to be interviewed by police for several days due to the extent of her injuries.
After an investigation, it was determined that Webb died from "complex homicidal violence" and that the attack occurred on February 28, three days before police arrived.
When police were able to interview Webb's wife, she said Anderson was the attacker, and that they knew him and he had done some odd jobs for the couple. GPS data from Anderson's phone placed him near Webb's home the night of the attack, according to the complaint.
Anderson is currently in custody at the Hennepin County Jail. The County's attorney office is seeking $1 million bail.
