Man Charged In White Bear Lake Armed Robbery
ST. PAUL (WCCO) -- A 33-year-old St. Paul man was charged Tuesday in connection to the Nov. 27, 2010 armed robbery of a bar in White Bear Lake, according to the Ramsey County Attorney's Office.
Tyice Alexander Philips faces two felony charges of aiding and abetting first-degree aggravated robbery and second-degree assault.
According to the criminal complaint, Philips and another man entered a White Bear Lake bar just before 2 a.m. wearing masks and brandishing handguns. They allegedly ordered bar patrons to the floor at gunpoint and ordered bar employees to open a safe.
A bar patron apparently tried to wrestle a gun from one of the robbers and another bar patron was shot when the gun went off. The two robbers then fled with cash from the bar and escaped in a car with a third suspect, according to the complaint.
Philips was arrested about an hour later after a police chase.
"This was a brazen crime and an affront to our community," said Ramsey County Attorney Susan Gaertner.
Philips faces a maximum of 27 years in prison if convicted on both charges.
