Man Charged In St. Paul Rape, Robbery
ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 33-year-old man is accused of raping and robbing a 27-year-old woman after the two left a St. Paul gas station on Wednesday, according to charges filed in Ramsey County District Court on Friday.
Demetrius Jermaine Miller was charged with first-degree criminal sexual conduct and first-degree aggravated robbery. Miller is currently being held in the Ramsey County Jail on a $150,000 bond, with his first court appearance scheduled for Monday.
According to a criminal complaint, Miller started talking with the woman at a gas station near Hamline and University Avenues on Wednesday night. As she was leaving, the man asked her for a cigarette.
The woman told police that Miller proceeded to drag her into an alley, punched her in the face, removed her shorts and underwear and sexually assaulted her. He also stole her cell phone and Ipod, the woman told police.
Miller was arrested Thursday at a St. Paul apartment. He told police in a statement that she raped him, but that he did rob her, according to the complaint.
The case remains under investigation. If he's convicted, Miller faces a maximum penalty of 50 years in prison and/or $75,000 in fines.
