Man Charged In Christmas Eve Parking Lot Shooting
WEST ST. PAUL, Minn. (WCCO) -- A 21-year-old man has been charged with assault after a Christmas Eve shooting in a discount store parking lot left one person injured.
Raivon Treyshan Balenger, of South St. Paul, has been charged with two felony counts of second-degree assault.
According to the complaint, the shooting happened after a fight almost broke out between Balenger and the victim at the discount store on Robert Street. The victim, who was not named, said that he had been involved in a fight with Balenger a few months prior.
The victim and the two people he was with left the store. While leaving the parking lot in his friend's car, the victim heard gunshots and was struck in the left leg by a bullet. He was taken to Regions Hospital, where X-rays showed he had a broken shin bone.
Though the victim didn't know Balenger by name, surveillance video showed him involved in the confrontation inside the store. He was also positively identified in the video images by his mother.
