Man Charged In Brooklyn Center Double Fatal Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- The man accused of driving drunk and killing two people in a Brooklyn Center car accident has been charged with two counts of criminal vehicular homicide.
Yeng Vue, 21, of Minneapolis, told investigators he was driving home from a friend's house in Minneapolis on Saturday night, where he was drinking beer and hard alcohol. He said he was heading to his cousin's home in Brooklyn Center and doesn't remember the details of the crash.
Around 10:27 p.m., Brooklyn Center Police were dispatched to a car accident at the intersection of 57th Avenue North and Highway 100 in Brooklyn Center.
Upon arrival, they found a Toyota Camry and a Geo Prizm both in the median on 57th Avenue North. Two people inside the Geo Prizm appeared to have died upon impact.
They were identified as 22-year-old George Kaffey and 21-year-old Jessica Vallis.
A witness to the accident was holding onto Vue, who police say was very unsteady on his feet and smelled of alcohol. A preliminary breath test registered a .182. The passenger of the Camry, 28-year-old Choua Yang, of Brooklyn Center, was walking away from the scene when police arrived.
Witnesses told police that the Camry was driving at a high rate of speed, ran a red light and crashed into the Geo Prizm in the middle of the intersection. After the crash, witnesses say the Camry started on fire from the hood of the car.
Witnesses pulled Vue from the car and held on to him until police arrived.
A criminal history check showed that Vue had a pending DWI charge from July 14, 2010, plus an outstanding warrant from Hennepin County for his arrest.
His driver's license was revoked in August 2010 and the Camry he was driving was not insured.
