Man Arrested After High Speed Chase In Minneapolis
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man who led Minneapolis Police on a high-speed chase Wednesday afternoon was eventually stopped and taken into custody, authorities said.
Sgt. Stephen McCarty said the incident started around 4:10 p.m. when police attempted to stop a vehicle in north Minneapolis on a routine traffic violation after the driver had failed to stop at a stop sign near 18th Avenue and 2nd Street North. The driver then took off and the chase ensued.
Authorities said the high-speed chase went across the Mississippi River, then back to the north side of Minneapolis and eventually onto eastbound I-94. The chase ended just before the Lowry Hill tunnel at Interstate 94 and Interstate 394.
The chase started with four or five cars but by the time the vehicle was stopped there were more than 10 squad cars involved. It also presented high danger to motorists leaving work as the evening commute was underway on I-94.
Once the vehicle was stopped an adult male was taken into custody. McCarty said a warrant was out for the man's arrest, but wouldn't specify what the warrant was for.
