Man Allegedly Led Cops On 70 MPH Chase On Stolen Dirt Bike
OAK GROVE, Minn. (WCCO) -- A St. Francis man is accused of leading police officers on a 70 mile-per-hour chase through a residential area on a stolen dirt bike.
According to a criminal complaint filed in Anoka County, an officer parked along County Road 22 in Oak Grove heard a racing engine and saw a man speed by in a dirt bike on Sept. 25 at about 9:30 a.m.
The officer pursued the man on the bike, who accelerated after noting he was being followed, the complaint says.
The chase continued on Hanson Boulevard at speeds up to 70 mph. The driver ran a stop sign and went through a residential yard during the chase, police said.
Eventually, the dirt bike stopped and police were able to take Nicholas Wayne Rickard into custody.
Investigators later determined that the bike had been stolen from a residence in East Bethel.
Rickard is currently charged with motor vehicle theft and fleeing an officer.
