Man Says Black Bear Attacked Him In Pine Co.
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A hunter was attacked by a black bear in northern Pine County Saturday afternoon, according to the Pine County Sheriff's Office.
According to police, officers received a 911 call reporting the man had been attacked just northeast of the Village of Duxbury.
The caller did not have specific details, but said that a male hunter had been tracking a wounded bear in the woods and needed medical attention.
Upon arrival, authorities found the man was a great distance into the woods and responders would need to use ATV's to get to him.
Police said the first responders found the man with severe lacerations and bites to his chest, arms and legs.
The victim told the deputies that while tracking the wounded bear, it charged out at him, knocked him down and began clawing and biting him.
The victim told police he attempted to fight off the bear by stabbing it with a hunting knife.
The victim was taken to North Memorial Hospital. He is in stable condition.
The bear has not been located. Police believe there is no risk to the general public.
The incident is currently under investigation.
