Man Accused In Wife's Fatal Drug OD Enters Plea Deal
GRAND RAPIDS, Minn. (AP) — A northern Minnesota man has entered a plea deal in his wife's drug overdose death last year.
Forty-nine-year-old Terry Wayne Richards of Grand Rapids pleaded guilty Monday to an amended charge of second-degree manslaughter.
Richards originally was charged with third-degree murder and a controlled substance crime. He was accused of buying fentanyl — a synthetic form of morphine — selling some of it to another person and later providing the drug to his wife at their home in September. Richards' wife died as a result of the drug use.
Itasca County Attorney John Muhar says the judge accepted Richards' plea and sentenced him to more than five years in prison.
The sentence is consistent with Minnesota sentencing guidelines.
