Man, 51, Gets 6 Years For Being High On Meth In Fatal Crash
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A 51-year-old Apple Valley man has been sentenced to more than 6 years in prison after admitting to being high on meth while behind the wheel of a truck that caused a fatal crash.
The Hennepin County Attorney's Office said Wednesday that Darvin Roy Basche was sentenced to 81 months in prison, the most severe punishment allowed under the sentencing guidelines for driving under the influence and killing another motorist.
Earlier this year, Basche admitted to being on meth on the morning of Sept. 24, 2013, when he drove his employer's pickup truck through a red light at the intersection of County Road 101 and Highway 7 in Minnetonka, the attorney's office said.
The pickup truck collided with the driver's side of a Toyota Corolla driven by of 58-year-old Elizabeth Pan-Chung-Ping Ketcher, who was on her way to a new job at Excelsior Elementary School.
She died shortly after.
Basche stayed at the scene following the crash and complied with a police breath test, the attorney's office said.
Later, his blood tested positive for meth.
