Man, 25, Charged In Officer-Involved Shooting In Mpls.

MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A 25-year-old man has been charged in connection to an officer-involved shooting in Minneapolis Tuesday night, according to the police.

The Hennepin County Attorney's office charged Deandre Quinteiz Austin with three felony counts, including fleeing a peace officer in a motor vehicle, first-degree possession of a controlled substance and first-degree sale of a controlled substance.

The incident happened at about 6:30 p.m. near 20th Street and Nicollet Avenue. Police were attempting to arrest Austin, and rather than complying with officers' orders, Austin allegedly attempted to ram a number of officers on the scene with a vehicle.

That's when an officer opened fire on Austin's vehicle.

"As many that could be fired in 15 seconds, it was intense," said neighbor Raymond Perry, who said he could smell the gunfire on the street, and counted up to 18 shots.

Chief Deputy Robert Allen said the investigation is only beginning.

According to police, Austin fled the scene in the vehicle down an alley until he stopped on 22nd Street West between Nicollet and Blaisdell Avenues and was arrested. Police said a second suspect was in the vehicle and fled the scene, but was not located.

There, authorities discovered that Austin had sustained a non-life threatening gunshot wound. He was transported to Hennepin County Medical Center. Authorities said no officers were injured during the incident.

The officers involved in the incident have been place on administrative leave, a standard procedure in these types of cases.

Austin is currently in the Hennepin County Jail.
