Sheriff: Man Dies In Crash After Threatening Public, Fleeing Police
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – A man who threatened to shoot himself and others is dead after fleeing police and crashing into an oncoming vehicle.
According to the Chisago County Sheriff's Office, the North Branch Police Department was looking for a male who violated a Domestic Violence No-Contact Order when the male called the sheriff's office.
He demanded to speak with the woman he was prohibited from contacting before threatening to run people over, shoot law enforcement and others and kill himself, the sheriff's office said.
At 3 p.m. Friday, police locked down a North Branch business because the suspect was threatening people there. A sheriff's deputy located the suspect and attempted to stop him, but the suspect fled, according to the sheriff's office.
The deputy pursued the suspect, who was swerving into oncoming traffic, causing vehicles to veer off the road.
The suspect crashed into an oncoming vehicle at Isanti County Road 5 and Vassar Street Northeast. He was killed at the scene, according to the sheriff's office. The female in the other vehicle was injured, as was the pursuing deputy, who crashed into the rear of the suspect's vehicle.
The Minnesota State Patrol is investigating. The male's identity has not been released.
