Make Cash By Recycling Old Electronics, Gadgets
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesotans are recycling old gadgets and gizmos like never before. In 2010, more than 211,700 pounds of used electronics were dropped off to be recycled at Minnesota Best Buy locations for their eCycle program.
The Best Buy in Roseville is the busiest store for the program.
"We take the most units in and we're filling a truck about every three days," said Kevin Naas, Roseville store's operations manager.
Unloading larger items like a 32-inch TV will cost you $10 at Best Buy, but you'll get a $10 gift card.
Some sound advice is to take inventory before you drop anything off. You can cash in on certain gadgets at websites like eBay, Craigslist and Gazelle.com.
"Gazelle offered me $125 for my (iPhone) 3G and going through my cell phone provider I could get the 3GS for $10, so I made a little cash on the deal," said Courtney Babcock.
Gazelle offers cash for select electronics. The website's benefit is that if you do have an item it's willing to pay for, you can ship them other electronics and Gazelle promises to dispose of them properly. The company will email you a pre-paid shipping label, and then mail your check.
