Majority Of Minn. Delegates Didn't Vote For Romney
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Delegates officially nominated Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney and Paul Ryan as the presidential ticket for the GOP Tuesday in Florida.
But in the Minnesota delegation, it did not come without controversy.
Unlike almost every other state in America, a majority of Minnesota delegates did not vote for Mitt Romney.
"We cast 33 votes for Ron Paul, one vote for Rick Santorum and six votes for Gov. Romney," said Marianne Stebbins, Minnesota delegation chairwoman.
Minnesota's Ron Paul delegates told WCCO this afternoon they were deeply disappointed by getting steamrolled. Stebbins said not all of Paul's delegates will vote for Romney in November.
All Romney's GOP competitors have endorsed him, with the exception of Ron Paul.
Tuesday's RNC highlight may have been Romney's wife, Ann Romney, humanizing her husband and her family.
"In the story books I read, there weren't five boys in the house screaming. It didn't have MS and breast cancer. We don't have a story book marriage," she said. "We have a real marriage."
It was a highly orchestrated convention moment, but politically effective nevertheless.
Wednesday will prove a big day for Minnesota and Wisconsin. Former Minnesota Gov. Tim Pawlenty is slated for a prime-time speaking role, and Wisconsin Congressman Paul Ryan will accept the nomination for vice president.
