Lynx To Wear Title IX Jerseys For Saturday's Game
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) — The Minnesota Lynx will be wearing special jerseys to commemorate the 40th anniversary of the federal law that pushed forward sports participation for women and girls.
Title IX was passed on June 23, 1972, requiring American institutions to offer equal opportunity in athletics for both genders. So the Lynx will be one of four WNBA teams on Saturday with every player wearing the number nine — the Roman numeral "IX" — on the front of their uniforms.
The Lynx play the Chicago Sky at Target Center. Several influential women in sports are scheduled to be present and honored during the game.
