Lynx Sign Whalen, Augustus To Contract Extensions
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Two key pieces of the Minnesota Lynx are sticking around for a while.
Lynx officials said Thursday that Seimone Augustus and Lindsay Whalen have both signed multi-year contract extensions. Exact terms of both contracts were not released.
Augustus is in her 11th WNBA season and is averaging more than 11 points per game while shooting nearly 46 percent from the field. She currently holds team records in games played (252), scoring (5,121), field goals (2,073) and minutes (8,981). Augustus is a six-time WNBA All-Star and has won three Olympic gold medals.
She started all 10 playoff games last year as the Lynx won their third WNBA title in five seasons.
Whalen is in her 13th WNBA season and seventh with the Lynx. She's averaging more than 10 points per game, nearly four assists and 2.7 rebounds per game. She's the franchise leader in assists with 2,153 and scored her 5,000th career point in July against Connecticut. She also became the first player in WNBA history to have at least 5,000 career points, 2,000 career assists and 1,500 rebounds.
