Lynx Guard Lindsay Whalen Nominated For ESPY
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – The Minnesota Lynx announced Thursday that guard Lindsay Whalen has been nominated for an ESPY Award, and fans have until July 17 to vote for her.
The ESPY Awards are hosted by ESPN ever year and stand for Excellence in Sports Performance Yearly. Whalen, a Hutchinson, Minn., native, has been nominated for this year's Best WNBA Player.
Whalen helped lead the Lynx to their second straight appearance in the WNBA Finals in 2012 and led the team in assists with more than five per game. She's currently fourth all-time in the WNBA with 1,567 assists. For her career over 10 seasons, Whalen is averaging 12.6 points per game, 5.1 assists and more than four rebounds.
Whalen is nominated along with Tamika Catchings, Tina Charles, Angel McCoughtry and Candace Parker.
The ESPY Awards will be broadcast live at 8 p.m. on Wednesday, July 17, on ESPN.
