Lynx Fever Hits Minnesota Ahead Of WNBA Finals Game 5
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Every year the Minnesota Lynx are a threat to win the WNBA title, and Thursday night will mark the second time that a deciding Game 5 will be played at Target Center.
The Minnesota Lynx have a chance to do what no other professional sports team in town has done: Win a fourth championship in six years.
The hype has carried over into both ticket and merchandise sales. The "Roar for 4," as they're calling it, has had Shaun Haggland stocking up on Lynx merchandise at his Fan HQ store inside the Ridgedale Mall. What he's selling more than anything are the green Lynx shirts.
"People are coming in and picking them, show their spirit, and green out at Target Center," Haggland said.
Lynx fan Gina Privratsky will be a part of that. All week long she's been looking forward to Game 5.
"Facebook. Big time. All my friends are on there 'Go, go, go! They can do it1'" Lynx fan Gina Privratsky said.
That enthusiasm has carried over to ticket sales. They're going fast, but you can still find a few tickets left at places like Ticket King.
"This is the highest demand Lynx game I've ever seen before. We are less than 50 tickets for our own inventory," Abby Madlock of Ticket King said.
"Once they got in the Finals we knew it was going to be good. And then when you get a Game 5, it is a totally different animal," Drew Baydala of Ticket King said.
Because the Lynx have been so successful, and deciding games in championship series are always exciting, tickets have become a novelty. From the upper bowl down to courtside.
"You're probably looking at $50 to, if you want to sit in really nice seats, $300 to $400 a clip. It's more expensive than some Timberwolves games," Baydala said.
The Lynx set an attendance record at last year's Game 5 with a crowd of just under 19,000. A Target Center basketball sellout is 19,356, and there is still a good chance they could hit that milestone Thursday night.
