Lynx Fans Travel To Atlanta To Hopefully Witness History
ATLANTA, Ga. (WCCO) -- The Minnesota Lynx will face the Atlanta Dream Friday night and are competing for the WNBA championship trophy in Atlanta.
They already beat the Dream in the first two games at the Target Center in the best-of-five series. A win tonight will give the Lynx their first WNBA title in franchise history, and the first Minnesota professional sports title since the Twins won the World Series in 1991.
The Lynx won't have the crowd support they had over the last two games, but the fans who will be in attendance plan to make their presence known. Dozens of Lynx fans were able to get tickets for Friday's game and fly down to Atlanta.
"It's a lot of fun to have a winning team. I'm sure the Lynx are going to win the series and I wanted to watch it," said Lynx fan Kay Schwebke.
Here's How Lynx Players Got Ready For Friday's Game
Schwebke made no secret of why she made the trip to Atlanta. Her dedication to the Lynx forced her to fly solo down to Atlanta for Friday's Game 3 of the WNBA Finals.
"I tried to convince people to come with me. It's difficult on short notice for people to get off work," she said.
That's the case for some fans, but not others. On the same flight to Atlanta were a pair of fans who share that same love of Lynx basketball.
"I'm really excited. This is incredible," said fan Jerry Leone. "These girls play from their heart and they play for the trophy because they're great players."
Like Schwebke, the Leone's have been season ticket holders for years.
"This year they're going to do it. I have no doubt they're going to do it," said Jerry's wife.
"I feel like they're going to crush them," said Jerry.
That's because they know fan support can make all the difference.
"You can tell the team feeds off fans so that's really cool that we've got that going for us," said Jerry's wife.
"I think we'll do the same thing we always do. We'll stay with them for three quarters and blow them away in the fourth," said Jerry.
Dozens of tickets were sold to Minnesota fans for this game. Many are thinking thinking this away game won't stop the momentum and the Lynx will return to Minnesota as champions of the WNBA.
