Lynx Coach Cheryl Reeve Returning To Team USA For 2016 Olympics
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) – USA Basketball announced Monday that Minnesota Lynx coach Cheryl Reeve will one of three assistants returning to Team USA for the 2016 Olympics.
Reeve will be an assistant to head coach Geno Auriemma as the same staff went 6-0 and won the gold medal at last year's FIBA World Championships. The 2016 Olympic Games will be held Aug. 5-21 in Rio De Janeiro, Brazil.
It's the first time Reeve will be a coach for a U.S. Olympic team.
"I'm thrilled to be continuing with the USA Basketball Women's National Team for the 2016 Olympics," Reeve said in a statement. "I thoroughly enjoyed working alongside Geno, Doug and Dawn, as well as the amazing USA National Team players at the World Championship. I look forward to competing for gold in Rio."
In five seasons with the Lynx, Reeve has led the franchise to a 118-52 overall record. The mark includes two WNBA titles. She was also named the 2011 WNBA Coach of the Year.
