Augustus' OT Jumper Pushes Lynx Past Dallas 98-97
ARLINGTON, Texas (AP) — Seimone Augustus hit a fade-away jumper in the paint with 15.3 seconds left in overtime to help the Minnesota Lynx beat the Dallas Wings 98-97 on Sunday night.
Maya Moore had 20 points and six assists, Sylvia Fowles added 14 points and a season-high 19 rebounds and Rebekkah Brunson had 16 points and 10 rebounds for the Lynx (19-4). Lindsey Whalen scored 15 points, Augustus had 14, and Renee Montgomery 11.
Plenette Pierson and Karima Christmas hit back-to-back 3-pointers to give the Wings a 97-94 lead with 1:21 left in overtime. Minnesota had four offensive rebounds on its next possession before Whalen made two free throws and, after a steal by Brunson on the other end, Augustus hit the winner.
Aerial Powers missed a leaning, tightly-defended shot as time expired for the Wings (9-14).
Dallas went scoreless for 4 minutes, 46 seconds as Minnesota built a 15-point lead late in the third quarter, but the Wings used a 25-10 run — capped by a 3 from Pierson — to tie it with 2:05 left in regulation.
After a 3-pointer by Augustus made it 89-86, Odyssey Sims hit three free throws to send it to overtime.
Pierson had 21 points and 11 rebounds, and Christmas scored 20 points for the Wings.
