'Love Your Melon' Co-Founders Go National With Tour Bus
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- What started as a class project at St. Thomas has become a national movement.
Love Your Melon is a nonprofit, allowing college students to bring even just a little joy to children fighting cancer. And it's literally now a movement. They have a tour bus, and WCCO-TV's Edward Moody was on it Tuesday morning at Amplatz Children's Hospital in Minneapolis.
Zachary Quinn, one of the co-founders of Love Your Melon, said it started at St. Thomas as a business project in an entrepreneurship class. They had to start a business, and Quinn said the idea they came up with was to start a business that could make a difference.
It's a group that helps children fighting cancer. They go to Twin Cities hospitals dressed as superheroes hoping to put a smile on a kid's face. It also inspired Quinn and fellow co-founder Brian Keller to start a hat company. For every hat they sell, they give one away to a child in need or a child with cancer.
Quinn and Keller recently got done with a 48-day tour spanning 18 cities over the west coast. They gave away more than 1,200 hats and said they sold close to that number also.
