Lottery Scratch Game Sales Up, Powerball Down
ROSEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) – Tough economic times apparently aren't stopping people in Minnesota from playing the lottery.
Officials announced Wednesday that the Minnesota State Lottery set a sales record for the fiscal year, which went from July 1, 2010 to June 30. Ticket sales set a record with more than $504 million.
That mark is an increase of more than $5 million in sales, or about 1.1 percent, from last year. Officials said scratch games sales led the increase at more than $354 million, which was up almost five percent from last year.
Overall sales of lottery games, like the Powerball, were down more than seven percent from last year. Lottery game sales totaled more than $143 million, which is down from 2010 by more than $11 million.
Lottery officials also said sales generated more than $121 million for state projects and programs.
