Long Winter Gave Red River Valley Residents Plenty Of Flood Prep Time
FARGO, N.D. (WCCO) - It seems some of the people of Fargo are unfazed by impending flood waters. Firefighter Benjamin Willey is one of them.
"Don't know if you ever get used to them. Come to expect them I guess," Willey said.
After the snow melts, the Red River typically floods. This year is expected to be one of the worst.
But the people who fight the waters say they've got the best plan ever. They say because of the late snow melt, they've had time to plan. Supplies, sand bags and clay dikes are ready to go.
Salvation Army volunteer Dave Hinkley says residents are ready to fight.
"We've gotten to a point now, we're conditioned," Hinkley said. "We're organized and we're ready."
The river is expected to crest early this week. Saturday night, the river was recorded at 27 feet and could go as high as 40 feet.
