Lockheed Martin Workers In Eagan Learn Future
EAGAN, Minn. (AP) -- Lockheed Martin Corp. employees in Eagan are learning if their jobs will be transferred to Virginia, New York or California, or eliminated.
About 750 employees got job offers and transfer dates Thursday while 250 were told they are being laid off.
Lockheed said in November it will close its Eagan plant by 2013, eliminating or moving about 1,000 jobs.
The St. Paul Pioneer Press reports the dates of transfers and layoffs will be staggered over two years. The first layoffs, affecting about 100 people, will be in March. The Bethesda, Md.-based company says the first group to transfer will be in June.
Layoffs could be greater than 250, depending if some offered transfers decline to move. Lockheed says laid-off employees will receive a severance package and outplacement services.
