Locked-Out? NFL Training Camp Sites Start To Sweat
MINNEAPOLIS (AP) -- The NFL lockout has reached three months, and the threat of canceled training camps has increased.
That could mean a big hit to communities that host teams for a couple weeks each summer.
Tourism officials say training camp makes a $5 million impact on the Mankato region when the Vikings practice at Minnesota State University. Cortland State University of New York says the Jets' camp brings a $5.8 million economic boost to their upstate area.
For the 15 teams that train away from their year-round facilities, there's also a sense of local pride in places like Georgetown, Ky., Spartanburg, S.C., and Anderson, Ind., with the exposure that comes from hosting an NFL training camp.
