Local Music Tap: 4 Shows To See This Week(end)
From a massive 20th anniversary celebration for Rhymesayers at the Target Center, to some more intimate concerts in Grand Marais and St. Paul, here are the four shows to see for this weekend.
FRIDAY: Rhymesayers 20th Anniversary Concert @ Target Center - Mpls.
It's hard to believe that Rhymesayers – Minneapolis' hip hop artist collective and record label – has been around since 1995! Now, Rhymesayers is celebrating 20 years of music and representing amazing artists (Atmosphere, Brother Ali to name a couple). It's all happening at the Target Center starting at 5 p.m.
List of musicians is extensive, but they're all great. All ages are welcome. Tickets are $20.

FRIDAY: Ginstrings @ Gunflint Tavern – Grand Marais
I thought I might throw a far-north option out there! Bluegrass/folk band Ginstrings is bringing its hypnotizing harmonies and instrumentation to Grand Marais' Gunflint Tavern.
All shows are free at Gunflint and children are welcome if they come with parents.

SATURDAY: I.B.E. & Benzilla EP Release @ Dakota Jazz Club - Mpls.
More quality hip-hop is in town! I.B.E. made his solo debut in 2013 and now he's releasing an EP at Dakota, in what's advertised as a "dance party". Things will get interesting!
The event is hosted by Benzilla with other performances by The Cavalry, Dot Ducati and Dahlia Jones. Show begins at 11:30 p.m. with $12 tickets.
SUNDAY: Ariana Kim CD Release @ Sundin Hall – St. Paul
An amazingly talented violinist hailing from Minnesota, Ariana Kim, is making her solo debut with the release of her new record. In it, she performs works by 20th and 21st century American women composers.
Kim will be performing live with "award-winning pianist Ieva Jokubaviciute and acclaimed mandolinist/fiddler Jennifer Curtis, followed by a champagne reception." I like the sound of that last part, too.
Show starts at 4 p.m. at Sundin Music Hall at Hamline University. Tickets range from $15 to $25.
