Local Group Brings Wine, Painting Together
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- A local group is adding a twist to a night out on the town. It's called "Wine and Canvas," and the name pretty well speaks for itself.
The group meets at restaurants around the Twin Cities, including Hell's Kitchen in downtown Minneapolis, to paint, have a glass of wine while they coat their canvas. They call themselves a painting class with cocktails.
People attending can order food and drinks off the menu at the establishment they're at and enjoy it while they paint.
"People sometimes are intimidated to paint or wouldn't be interested in trying it because they think they can't do it. But when there's food and wine involved, all the sudden it's fun and it's entertainment," said Erik Swenson. "It's about getting people to try something they normally wouldn't."
The group brings everything in that's need to paint a canvas, including brushes, a board and several colors of paint. It's basically a mobile art studio.
"Pretty much every night of the week we're painting somewhere in the metro," Swenson said.
"It's just a good chance to get out and do something during the week that's fun with your girlfriends," said Jenny Hewitt. "It's fun to try something new and know that you made something."
A Wine and Canvas session ranges from $35 to $45 per person in addition to what you spend on food and drinks. The classes usually last two to three hours.
