Liriano's Next Start Pushed Back A Day
BOSTON (AP) -- Minnesota left-hander Francisco Liriano will wait another day to follow up his no-hitter, having his next start pushed back because of flu symptoms and a sore throat.
Liriano threw a no-hitter against the Chicago White Sox on Tuesday night for the first this season in the majors.
"I'll be back on Tuesday," he said Sunday morning before the Twins faced the Red Sox. "I'm feeling good, feel fine."
Detroit's Justin Verlander pitched the second no-hitter of the season Saturday against the Blue Jays in Toronto.
Liriano, who struggled early in the season before the no-hitter, will face the Detroit Tigers at Target Field. He was originally scheduled to pitch the series finale in Boston on Monday, but stayed at the hotel Friday night when he wasn't feeling well.
He treated Sunday like an off day, lifting weights and stretching.
On Tuesday, he walked six, fanned two and threw 123 pitches for his first career complete game, raising his record to 2-4 and lowering his ERA to 6.61.
The 27-year old had Tommy John surgery more than four years ago, hoping to recover from an elbow injury that threatened to end a promising career. He was selected as AL comeback player of the year in 2010.
