Lawmakers Work To Finish Tax Bill, Disaster Aid Package
ST. PAUL, Minn. (AP) — The short week at the Minnesota Legislature means less time to complete work on some time-sensitive matters.
Legislators were returning to St. Paul on Tuesday. By week's end, they hope to send Gov. Mark Dayton a bill containing about $20 million in tax deductions and credits. The Senate is the last legislative stop.
They also want to adopt an emergency aid bill that would free up about $12 million for communities that were hit with extreme summer flooding. That bill provides state matching money for federal disaster assistance as well as helps out some counties left out of the federal declaration. A House vote could come as soon as Thursday.
And Thursday is the deadline for deciding how to divvy up space in a redone Capitol before costly delays arise.
