Lawmakers Prepare For Special Session On Impact Of Shortened Walleye Season
MINNEAPOLIS (WCCO) -- Minnesota lawmakers will be meeting later Tuesday to talk about a special session designed to help those affected by the shortened walleye season on Lake Mille Lacs.
Republican Sen. Dave Brown represents the residents of Lake Mille Lacs. He told WCCO's Dave Lee he has two goals for the session.
"The governor would like to see some assistance for business owners. The business owners want to see changes in how the DNR manages the lake," Brown said.
Brown said some business owners have questions about how the DNR is measuring the walleye population.
"I'm not asking for anyone's head here and not trying to criticize the DNR, but I am hearing from business owners who say the DNR is not going about this in the best manner," he said.
Gov. Mark Dayton is planning to fish the lake this weekend for other kinds of fish that are not being restricted.
