Last-Minute Shoppers Take Their Chances
ROSEVILLE, Minn. (WCCO) - Christmas shopping sales aren't expected to be as good as retailers had hoped, but lots of shoppers out Monday might make up some of that difference.
According to Consumer Reports, 17 million people wait until Christmas Eve to shop. Teacher Betty Dean is one of them.
"I don't think I'm your worst shopper in the world," Dean said. "I got here real early this morning, and it was very pleasant. The music is nice, and, you know, people attend to you and you get free samples. And parking is fabulous - right at the front door."
It wasn't all that difficult to find smiles at Rosedale Mall. Jennifer Broten started her shopping on Black Friday, and fit in what she could.
"With four kids running around, it's running out of time," Broten said.
And Seamus Carolan didn't want to carry all those presents on the plane from Ireland.
"We've had a great time. We've been to the, what do you call it, the Hollidazzle downtown, is that what you call it? Lovely, yes. Great, great display all together," Carolan said.
Depending on what you were looking for it might have been a good idea to wait until the last minute, because I found deal, after deal, after deal.
"Feeling like we can get a better deal, but we didn't. I don't think we did," laughed Jennifer Broten.
Most stores are closed by Monday night. Most Walmarts are open until 8 p.m., and Target stores are open until 9 p.m. Toys R Us is staying open until 10 p.m.
